Low Maintenance Koma Board

The recent introduction of PVC building materials has revolutionized the construction industry. This is not the paper thin vinyl shutter material that is common in home improvement stores. We use Koma brand PVC which has the same dimensions, and about the same weight, as our cedar shutters. In fact, we use exactly the same tools and construction methods — including mortise and tenon joints — to construct our PVC shutters as we use for our wood shutters. The advantage is that PVC is completely waterproof and virtually maintenance free. PVC comes in a bright white color that is UV-resistant and does not require paint for protection. But if you want to add a finish, most paints adhere to PVC much better than wood, giving a smooth, high quality finish that lasts for years. Our PVC shutters have a light wood grain embedded into the surface that, when finished, is virtually indistinguishable from real wood. PVC is moderately priced at slightly less than clear cedar.
